5 Steps to Your College List

From entering your rank to generating an optimized CSAB choice fill โ€” here's exactly how it works.

1

Enter Your JEE Main Rank

Type in your CRL (Common Rank List) rank. This is the foundation โ€” every prediction is calculated based on your exact rank against 3 years of real CSAB closing cutoff data.

Use your CRL rank, not category rank. The tool handles category filtering separately.

Set Your Preferences

Choose your category (OPEN, OBC, SC, ST, EWS), quota (Other State or Home State), gender, and preferred branches. This filters the 700+ college-branch combinations to show only what's relevant.

Always check Home State quota for your state's NIT โ€” cutoffs are significantly easier.

View Your Predictions

See every college-branch combination with a probability score based on 3 years of closing rank data. Each card shows the closing rank, 2026 projected cutoff, and year-over-year trend.

Focus on 60-90% chance colleges for your "target" list. Above 90% = safety, below 40% = dream/reach.

Generate Smart Choice Fill

Our algorithm takes your wishlist and produces an optimized CSAB choice fill order โ€” Dream picks at the top, target in the middle, safety at the bottom. Export as PDF and use directly during counselling.

CSAB gives you the highest-ranked choice you qualify for. More choices = better odds.
Optimized Choice Order
1. NIT Trichy โ€” CSE (12%) DREAM
2. NIT Warangal โ€” CSE (18%) DREAM
3. NIT Durgapur โ€” ECE (75%) TARGET
4. NIT Patna โ€” CSE (72%) TARGET
5. NIT Silchar โ€” CSE (95%) SAFETY

Understanding Your Predictions

What each element on a prediction card means.

% Chance Circle
Your probability of admission based on where your rank falls relative to 3 years of closing cutoffs.
80-100% = High   50-79% = Medium   <50% = Low
Exact Match vs Buffer Zone
Exact Match: Your rank is below last year's cutoff โ€” you'd have been admitted. Buffer Zone: Your rank is close but slightly above โ€” a reach worth including.
Opening vs Tightening Trend
Opening (+): Cutoff rank rising each year = getting easier. Tightening (-): Cutoff dropping = getting harder. Check 3-year trends before deciding.
2026 Projected Cutoff
Our algorithm projects the next year's closing rank based on historical trends. Use this to gauge whether a college is getting easier or harder to crack.
Avoid These
5 Mistakes That Cost Students Their Dream College

Learn from thousands of previous CSAB applicants.

1
All Dream, No Safety
What they do
Only pick top NITs with <15% chance. End up with zero allotment after all rounds.
NIT Trichy CSE โ€” 8%
NIT Warangal CSE โ€” 12%
NIT Surathkal CSE โ€” 14%
What to do
Follow the 30-40-30 rule: 30% dream picks, 40% realistic targets, 30% safe colleges you'd be happy attending.
Mix of Dream + Target + Safety
2
CSE-Only Tunnel Vision
What they do
Only select CSE and reject all other branches, missing great colleges where ECE/IT cutoffs are much more achievable.
What to do
ECE at NIT Warangal often has better outcomes than CSE at a much lower-ranked NIT. Consider IT, ECE, and Mathematics too.
3
Random Choice Ordering
What they do
Put safety colleges above dream colleges. CSAB gives you the highest-ranked choice you qualify for โ€” wrong order = missed upgrades.
What to do
Always order: Dream โ†’ Target โ†’ Safety. Our Smart Choice Generator does this automatically based on your probability data.
4
Ignoring Year-over-Year Trends
What they do
Pick a college showing 65% chance without noticing the cutoff has been tightening every year โ€” by 2026, their actual chance is much lower.
What to do
Always check the 3-year trend arrow. Opening trend = good sign. Tightening = be cautious. Our predictions already factor this in.
5
Forgetting Home State Quota
What they do
Apply to their own state's NIT with OS (Other State) quota, competing against a much harder cutoff when they qualify for the easier HS seats.
What to do
Select HS (Home State) for your state's NIT. HS cutoffs can be 5,000-15,000 ranks easier than OS. Always check both in the predictor.
Pro Tips
Smart Strategies

Quick tips that make a real difference.

๐Ÿ“‹
Fill 50-100 Choices
More choices never hurts you. CSAB picks the highest match. Adding extra safety options is always smart insurance.
๐Ÿ”„
Float Early, Freeze Late
Float your seat in early rounds to stay eligible for upgrades. Freeze only when you get a college you're truly happy with.
๐Ÿ“Š
Check Trends Before Deciding
A college with 70% chance but opening trend is better than 75% chance with tightening trend. Look at the direction, not just the number.
